Longtime no post folks, sorry :-(

After Bony Mountain, Texas QLD & Mildura I’m still humming some tunes in my head. The weather’s warming, the rains have come across lots of OZ, I’ve got a “springtime” in my step & hope you all do too!

Local gigs for the next few weeks then the Slim Dusty CMMW at Kempsey Oct 17 – 23, why not make it a week, visit the Slim Dusty Centre in Kempsey, catch a bream on Crescent head beach & head west to Nulla?

The run up to Christmas won’t be far away so stay calm & happy all :-)

St Patrick’s Day & jiggy stuff

Tuesday, March 29th, 2016

Well after a wonderful Easter out at the Tullamore Irish Festival & the weekend before a jaunt to beautiful New Caledonia for some gigs over St Pat’s week I’m sitting down to write about the fun & craic of the past few weeks.

The Fettler & I started out at Gladesville Sports Club for there annual Irish night and had a blast, as usual then picked up squeezebox king Garry Steel & took ourselves to New Caledonia for the St Pat’s weekend of music & fun. What a hoot. An island melting pot of cultures with a passion for music, we loved being part of the Bar En Live events.

Easter is the annual 5 or so hour drive to over the Great Divide, dependant upon holiday traffic, to the flatlands where sheep & wheat abound and they’re always in need of some rain, to the gorgeous little village of Tullamore. We catch up with the Horsburgh’s & many other locals & experience small country town hospitality for the long weekend. Oh and there’s Gerry the imported Irish, gaelic speaking ex real estate, ex publican, crazy lil’ fella that makes it all tickle along.

We weren’t part of the festival stage this year but the little town really comes alive with lots of young passionate Irish folk singing about all things Irish. It’s just wonderful to hear young people singing traditional songs with so much passion!

Anyways the Irish music will slip into the background now for a bit as the days grow shorter, daylight savings ends & we all settle in for the winter months. Hibernation sounds like a good idea to help lose the post music high comedown. Goodnight.

A few pics from my recent shenanigans.

This from the Tamworth Festival promo folks:

2016 is shaping up to be a cracker for Northern-Rivers alt-country musician Kathryn Jones and Sydney based music partner Steve Passfield as they prepare for the Tamworth Country Music Festival. The pair have received 8 nominations as well as taking out a Brumby Award for Best Collaboration in the Australian Independent Country Music Awards. With 3 nominations in the prestigious Tamworth Songwriters Association Salute Awards and 6 in the People’s Choice Awards, Jones and Passfield are in good spirits and will be kept busy performing at all 3 awards nights as well as various shows throughout the festival.

Steve has been an integral part of the Australian country music industry since the 80’s with his very popular outfit The Handpicked band and has received many awards for his contribution and talents including a coveted Golden Guitar, Canberra & Australian Song Writing Awards & industry awards the Slim Dusty Mateship Award & The Maureen Wagner Memorial Award.

Kathryn’s recent amalgamation with Passfield, who produced her 2nd album Lil Gypsy, shows the sassy performers songs truly brought to the fore. The first single, a co-write with Steve, “Even Cowgirls Sing the Blues” shot to #4 on the National Country Tracks chart staying for an impressive 18 weeks. Their 2nd release Gypsy, on the Wrong Side of the World, currently #21 on the Australian Country Tracks Chart was radio presenter/journalist Jon Wolfes’ favourite track at the 2015 Tamworth CMF with Jon stating in his Capital News review -‘The collaboration between singer/songwriter Kathryn Jones & songwriter/producer Steve Passfield, showcases the extraordinary talent this woman is”.

2015 saw Jones & Passfield touring Lil Gypsy music to stunning destinations such as New Zealand & New Caledonia, as well as local festivals eg The Gympie Muster, Slim Dusty CMF, Sydney CMF, The Central Coast CMF, Bony Mountain Folk Festival and Port Stephens CMF.
