Steve Passfield, long time leader of the Sydney based Handpicked Band has finally made the jump. The album “Goin’ It Alone” is an awesome collection of original songs and tunes that are very diverse in styles and subjects. Produced by Rod McCormack, Golden Guitar-Producer Of The Year, “Goin’ It Alone” sees Steve at his very best so far.
Steve and Rod co-wrote the thought provoking “A Man Will Risk It All” and the amazing Kevin Bennett of The Flood and Steve co-wrote “This House”, a beautiful old timey, happy, break-up song. Bill Chambers joins Steve in vocals on “This House” and plays some of his trademark dobro to really polish it off.
Recorded with a band of the finest musicians found in Australia, Michel Rose (pedal steel, dobro and mandolin), Stuie French (electric and acoustic guitars), Jeff McCormack (bass), Glenn Wilson (drums), Bill Risby (piano and accordion), Rod McCormack (guitars, backing vocals, mandolin, papoose, mandola, programming and percussion) and Bill Chambers (dobro on This House), Steve’s new album is set to make a mark and have plenty of people sharing in the emotions that good songs can evoke.
This is certainly not the end of the Handpicked Band, but a new and exciting step for Steve. With a top class album to showcase his songwriting and performance abilities, Steve is doing a bit more of the hard work on “Goin’ It Alone”.
